What are Budesal Respules?

Budesal Respules 0.5 mg/2 ml (active ingredient a steroid medication called budesonide salbutamol) is a sterile suspension for inhalation via a jet nebulizer used to prevent asthma attacks. It works by halting the release of certain inflammatory producing substances. Budesal Respules will not treat an asthma attack that is already in progress an asthma attack should be treated with a rapid onset inhaler.

Budesal Respules are manufactured by Cipla.

How to Use Budesal Respules

Follow your doctor's instructions for using Budesal Respules. You should not start, stop, or change your dosage without your doctor's approval.
Your dosage will be determined by your doctor based on such factors as the severity of your condition, your age, weight and general condition of your health.

It is important to keep medications dispensers clean. A dispenser that is not kept clean can lead to contamination of the medication.  Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using and cleaning your medication dispenser.

Precautions and Warnings

Before using Budesal Respules, it is important to have a complete physical examination. Based on the severity of your asthma and your general health you doctor will determine if Budesal Respules is the correct medication to treat your condition. Other factors used to make the determination include, your age and weight. Be ready to tell your doctor your complete medical history and have a list of all of the medications you are taking. This includes over-the-counter, and prescription medications, herbal remedies, vitamin, and supplements. Certain medical conditions and medications can have an adverse reaction with Budesal Respules.

Budesal Respules is not recommended for use by children less than 6 years of age, unless prescribed by the child's doctor. Steroids may effect a child's growth. Monitor your child's growth for any abnormalities. If you notice any abnormalities report them to your child's doctor.

Budesal Respules will not treat an asthma attack; it is intended for the prevention of asthma attacks.
Do not stop using an oral steroidal medication suddenly it may cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor can give you advice about slowly weaning the dosage of oral steroids.

Do not use Budesal Respules if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast feeding ask your doctor if it is safe for you to take Budesal Respules.

If your condition doesn't improve after 2 weeks, tell your doctor. He or she may decide to change your medication.
Rinse your mouth with water after using Budesal Respules to reduce the risk of developing an oral yeast infection,

Long term use of steroids can cause bone loss. The chance of developing osteoporosis is increased for people who smoke, do not get regular exercise, have a vitamin D or calcium deficiencies, or who have a family history of osteoporosis.  Ask your doctor about your risk for osteoporosis and advice on what you can do to prevent it.
Prolonged steroid use can also cause:

  • bruising
  • changes in body fat
  • impotence
  • increased acne
  • increased facial hair
  • loss of sex drive
  • menstrual disorders
  • thinning skin

Do not take Budesal Respules without your doctor's approval if you have:

  • a bacterial infection
  • a fungal infection
  • a history of tuberculosis
  • a viral infection
  • drug allergies
  • herpes simplex of the eye
  • liver disease
  • osteoporosis

The active ingredient, budesonide salbutamol can damage your immune system. Avoid close contact with people who are sick and places such as hospitals and daycare centers.
If you accidently take an overdose of Budesal Respules, get immediate medical attention. If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember; if it is almost time for the next dose, wait and take that dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

Possible Drug Interactions

  • ritonavir
  • paroxetine
  • nortriptyline
  • nelfinavir
  • keoconazole
  • itraconazole
  • imipramine
  • amitriptyline
  • clarithromycin
  • doxepine
  • erythromycin
  • fluoxetine
  • fluvoxamine

Possible Side Effects

As is common with many medications and drugs, there is a possible you may experience side effects when using budesonide salbutamol.
If you have any symptoms of an allergic reaction get immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include

  • difficulty breathing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • hives or red patches and bumps on the skin
  • swollen face, lips, or throat

Common side effects should be reported to your doctor, they include:

  • bloody nose
  • changes in sense of taste
  • cough
  • white sore in mouth or on lips
  • throat irritation
  • sore throat
  • sneezing
  • runny nose
  • nausea
  • hoarseness
  • headaches
  • dry throat                                            

Tell your doctor if you experience any of the common side effects. If they continue or get worse get medical attention as soon as possible
Critical side effects should receive immediate medical attention, they include:

  • changes in behavior
  • changes in vision
  • difficulty breathing
  • ear pain and or fever
  • excessive thirst
  • increased urination
  • dizziness or fainting
  • changes in mood
  • body or muscle pain
  • unusual hair growth
  • unusual tiredness
  • changes in vision
  • vomiting
  • weakness
  • weakness
  • wheezing
