About  Budecort

Budecort contain budesonide a steroid medication used to treat asthma. Budesonide works by stopping the chemicals in the body that cause inflammation in the lungs. Budecort inhalers are used to prevent asthma attacks; they are not for use for an asthma attack that is in progress. Use of a rapid onset inhaler for asthma attacks should only be used when prescribed by your doctor.

Budecort Asthma Medications are manufactured by Cipla. It contains the active ingredient budesonide. Budecort is available in various strengths and in these pharmaceutical forms Inhalers, Respules, Rotacaps, Oral Tablets, and Nasal Spray.
Your doctor may also prescribe Budecort to treat other medical conditions not listed here.

How To Use Budecort

Follow your doctor's instructions on how to use Budecort. Your dosage will be determined by things such as the severity of your condition, your age, weight, and the general condition of your health. It is crucial that you follow the prescription instructions precisely when taking budesonide.

Budecort is available in various forms, such as nasal spray, oral tablets and inhalers (respules & rotacaps).
To lessen the chance of developing candidiasis of the mouth, you should rinse your mouth with water after using your inhaler.

The usual dose of Budecort nasal spray is 1 to 4 sprays in each nostril once a day or as prescribed by your doctor.
It is important to keep medications dispensers clean to avoid contamination. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning your inhaler.

Precautions and Warnings

Asthma medications containing budesonide will only be prescribed after your doctor evaluates the severity of your asthma. Your doctor will need to know your complete medical history and all of the medications you take, including prescription, over-the-counter medications, herbal remedies, and vitamin supplements.

Consult with your doctor if after 2 weeks of using Budecort your asthma symptoms do not subside.
Do not take Budecort if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Do not take Budecort without your doctor's approval if you have:

  • a bacterial infection
  • a fungal infection
  • a history of tuberculosis
  • a viral infection
  • herpes simplex of the eye
  • liver disease
  • osteoporosis

Oral steroidal medications should not be stopped suddently, doing so may cause adverse withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor for advice about slowly decreasing the dosage of an oral steroidal medication.
If you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant or breast feeding your baby, talk to your doctor about the safety of using Budecort.

Do not take Budecort if you are breast feeding as it may pass into the breast milk; consult your doctor about if it safe to use Budecort if you are breastfeeding.
Do not take budesonide if you are already suffering from an acute asthma attack. It is used to prevent attacks and does not work rapidly enough to treat an attack. For an asthma attack you should use a rapid onset inhaler.

Do not use Budecort if it is not prescribed for you by your doctor. Do not give your medications to anyone else.
Steroid medications may compromise your immune system. Avoid contact with people and places where there is a high risk of getting sick such as hospitals, daycare centers, and large crowds of people.

Using steroidal medications for an extended time may lead to osteoporosis. The risk increases if you smoke, are sedentary, have a vitamin D or calcium deficiency, or if you have a family history of osteoporosis. Ask your doctor about yours risk for osteoporosis and what you can do to prevent or reduce your risk.

Drug Interactions

Possible Side Effects

  • swollen face, mouth, lips, or tongue
  • red patches on skin or hives

If you have an allergic reaction; get immediate emergency medical attention.

  • difficulty breathing
  • changes in vision
  • wheezing
  • weakness
  • vomiting
  • unusual tiredness
  • dizziness or fainting

Common side effects that should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible include:

  • white sore in mouth or on lips
  • sore throat
  • sneezing
  • nausea
  • headaches
  • cough
  • bloody nose
